Between The Evil Dead and Spider-Man, director Sam Riami created an original superhero from his love of classic gothic horror. Liam Neeson stars as scientist Peyton Westlake, whose research into synthetic skin is disrupted by a ruthless gang of criminals. Left for dead and disfigured, Peyton becomes “Darkman”, an avenging angel who hides in the shadows. Over-the-top visuals and wacky gags are all over this gothic comic-book thriller. You will never forget the “Pink Elephant” scene!

Before Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie, comedian Matt Johnson’s first film was a dark found footage comedy thriller.

“We’re just here for the bad guys.” Canadian comedian Matt Johnson’s first film as a director took the documentary and comedy improv techniques from Nirvanna The Band The Show and applied them to a post-Columbine vision of high school. Matt Johnson plays Matt and Owen Williams plays Owen, high school friends who are making a film project for class. Within their constant bullying by classmates, they hit upon a new idea of making a movie… about a school shooting. A very dark satire with music by Jay McCarrol.   

BODY MELT (1993)

Andy Samberg is stuntman Rod Kimble in this underrated comedy from The Lonely Island. Hosted by Simon Miraudo. 

Hot Rod was the film debut for Andy Samberg, hot from Saturday Night Live and the comedy team The Lonely Island. A box office failure upon release, it’s become a cult classic of the DVD era with an all-star cast including Bill Hader, Danny McBride, Isla Fisher and Ian McShane. Rod Kimble (Samberg) wants to be a great stuntman even though he can’t grow a moustache. Between fighting his step-dad and training with his buddies, Rod plans a death-defying stunt that will make him famous. The rare American movie to feature John Farnham’s ‘You’re The Voice’ on the soundtrack. Hosted by Simon Miraudo.

TRUE STORIES (1986)

Directed by David Byrne, a cool, multi-purpose comedy about the people of Virgil, Texas. Starring John Goodman with music from Talking Heads.

After the success of the Talking Heads concert movie, Stop Making Sense, David Byrne was given the chance by Warner Brothers to make his own movie. While a box office failure upon release, True Stories celebrates its fortieth anniversary this year as a singular and strange big-screen comedy released by a major studio. Wearing a cowboy hat, Byrne takes the audience on a tour of Virgil, Texas where people are preparing for a “Celebration of Specialness” including eligible bachelor Louis Fyne (John Goodman). With original music by David Byrne and Talking Heads, this is a rare chance to see this completely cool, multi-purpose movie on the cinema screen.
