time space motion (2017)

Shinkan Tamaki’s experimental, mostly-silent film records light passing through a window, compressed to 1/120th of the original recording duration. It is an observation of time and light as they act upon space. Last screened in Boorloo by Tone List in cooperation with Mystery & Wonder in 2017, it proved powerful and moving for the small audience who witnessed it, and provoked artistic responses. Tone List are happy to have Shinkan-san’s support to share it again!

Re-Recorder (2022)

Released on the label Canti Magnetici, Re-Recorder is an audio-only but fundamentally cinematic work by filmmaker and sound artist Joshua Bonnetta, and composer-cellist Judith Hamann. Comprised of location recordings, foley, sketches, outtakes and musical fragments, the work, in their own words, “reflect[s] on the possibilities of a particular form of ‘aural cinema,’ of fictional spaces constructed from the reordering and recasting of documentary and documentation.” Hybrid, impossible spaces that fuse inside and outside, are made possible in the absence of images.

Tone List:

Tone List is an artist-run, Boorloo-based label for exploratory music. It is dedicated to the nurturing of approaches to music-making which receive little or no attention in existing structures on the west coast of this continent, especially where those approaches are radical or novel.

We publish recordings predominantly by Western Australian artists, and organise concerts and workshops with an intention towards strengthening the sense of community amongst experimental musicians and offering outlets for their music to be heard by a wide, engaged public. Our aim is to ensure that emergent young musicians interested in new ways of working with sound have an internationally connected scene to grow into, a network of inspiring local practitioners interested in hearing and supporting their music, and resources to support their artistic development. We strive to cultivate a sound culture that foregrounds generosity, altruism, courage, rigour, and connection to place.
