Trash Classics in 2025? We are so back!
If you’re not familiar with Trash Classics, it’s a cult movie night that screens on the last Friday of each month at Luna Leederville. These are movies that were “trashed” upon release, critically and/or commercially, and are now regarded as classics. It’s a fun night for old fans and new viewers!

Showgirls (1995) Interactive Goddess Edition
Hosted by Koko! Leave your inhibitions at the door and celebrate the 20th anniversary of this cinematic trash classic directed by Paul Verhoeven. In one of the great screen performances, Elizabeth Berkely completely dominates her role as Nomi, a dancer who experiences the sleazy underbelly and the glitzy glamour of Las Vegas. Samurai Cop (1991)
Imagine if The Room was an action movie. That’s Samurai Cop, a direct-to-video flop that has become a new trash masterwork. A mulleted All-American cop trained in the ways of the Samurai goes after the Yakuza in Los Angeles. Bad acting, terrible dialogue, uncoordinated fighting, and huge laughs.
Return To Oz (1985)
Here’s something wicked. The underrated dark fantasy sequel from Disney to The Wizard Of Oz that gave children nightmares. Starring Fairuza Balk as Dorothy who escapes a sanatorium and returns to the Emerald City, to save her friends, make new ones (including Jack Pumpkinhead and TikTok), and stop the evil Nome King. For fans of Labyrinth and The NeverEnding Story. Watch out for the Wheelers!
From Beyond (1986)
Co-presented by Black Maria Film Collective. If you want more gloop and gore after The Substance, check out this cult horror gem from the makers of Re-Animator. A scientist has discovered a parallel dimension through a machine called The Resonator. Zapping the pineal gland in our heads brings forth creatures, horniness, and brain-sucking. What could go wrong? Starring horror screen legends Jeffrey Combs and Barbara Crampton.
Speed Racer (2008)
Co-presented by Perth Comics Arts Festival. From the makers of The Matrix, this big-screen adaptation of the Tatsuo Yoshida anime is a kaleidoscopic, hyperkinetic visual feast! Ever since he was a kid, Speed Racer has wanted to go fast. To overcome corporate greed, he’ll need his family, a cheeky monkey and the Mach Five car. Go Speed Racer go! Starring John Goodman, Susan Sarandon and Christina Ricci.
Plan 9 From Outer Space (1959)
Long considered one of the worst movies of all time, by one of the worst directors of all time, Edward D. Wood Jnr. Aliens plot to take over Earth by making the dead rise from the grave. Starring Bela Lugosi (kind of), Vampira and wrestler Tor Johnson. A sci-fi horror camp schlock classic. To quote The Amazing Criswell, “Can your heart stand the shocking facts?”
Freddy Got Fingered (2001)
Is it tasteless, unredeemable garbage or an avant garde, postmodern comedy masterpiece? You be the judge! A rare chance to experience comedian Tom Green’s directorial debut on the big screen, which flopped upon release, but has now become a cult favourite. Co-starring Rip Torn. (sings) “Daddy, would you like some sausage?”
