After Jessica Grace’s terrific cover art and review about it for VHS Tracking Issue 5, I finally watched Vampyros Lesbos (1971; Las Vampiras). Directed by Jesus Franco (aka Jess Franco who turns up in the movie playing a creep), the story follows Linda (Ewa Stromberg) who becomes obsessed with nightclub dancer/undead Countess Nadine (Soledad Miranda). Their developing attraction and relationship is threatened by the cult of vampirism and those who seek to learn their secrets. Stylish and seedy in equal parts, the longing gazes and lurid are complimented by a great psychedelic soundtrack by Vampire Sound Incorporated (I am familiar with one track thanks to the Jackie Brown soundtrack). A deserved cult movie experience particularly due to Miranda’s alluring presence.
