Mindhorn (2016) was silly, to quote Bill Murray in The Man Who Knew Too Little, but good silly. Reminiscent of the Alan Partridge movie with a bit of Toast Of London and Garth Marenghi thrown in, it’s a 90 minute comedy vehicle for the great Julian Barratt from The Mighty Boosh, and on that level, it worked for me. He’s pretty funny as the washed-up actor forced to play his 1980s-era TV detective character to help the police catch a killer on the Isle of Man. Also funny is co-writer Simon Farnaby as his stunt man and romantic rival. Available on Netflix for Australian audiences. Recommended.
