Creepshow (1982)

When I was a kid, I stayed up one night to watch Creepshow (1982) – director George A Romero and writer Stephen King’s tribute to old EC horror comics – and it spooked me even though I thought I could handle it. Rewatching it after Romero passed away, I loved it – it feels like how horror movies should be, just ghoulish fun. Great Tom Savini special effects and comic book framing/lighting. King must’ve had tickets on himself to think he could act as well in this thing (rather than give it to a Dan Aykroyd type). Leslie Nielsen and Hal Holbrook were the best in giving some of that old Hollywood magic to such grotesque stories. One of the great horror anthologies.
