Hotel Artemis (2018)

Hotel Artemis (2018) was better than I expected. Call it the lowered expectations of a B movie. John Wick comparisons abounded when it came out (as it is about a secret hospital for criminals) but there’s a bit of Blade Runner in there too. All the main action happens in the climax, and it’s mainly all intrigue, just hanging out with fun noir archetypes in a future LA atmosphere. I thought it was more involving and entertaining (and shorter at 93 mins) than the similar Bad Times At The El Royale. As my girlfriend Sally said during, Jodie Foster and Sterling K Brown was the friendship pairing you didn’t know you needed. Thanks to Pete Long for the hearty recommendation. Cliff Martinez did the soundtrack as well; written and directed by Drew Pearce.
