In A Valley Of Violence (2016)

Directed by Ti West (House of the Devil, The Innkeepers) and produced by Blumhouse, In A Valley Of Violence (2016) is a satisfying B-movie western, a bit like John Wick (unfortunately for animal lovers) as weary soldier Ethan Hawke and his trusty dog (played by Jumpy) try to move through a small town without trouble but wind up defending themselves against a noxious bully played by James Ransone (Ziggy from The Wire) who is shielded by his sheriff father (John Travolta, surprisingly decent). It’s a straight up revenge thing but with a little bit of nuance and a sly sense of humour. The Morricone aping score by Jeff Grace is pretty decent too. Recommended.
